Ceglie Messapica the city of gastronomy
Places to visit in Ceglie Messapica:
ACQUA INN at the Villaggio Lamaforca, just outside Ostuni (exit for Torre Pozzelle on the E55/SS379) has slides, swimming pools, children's lagoon, restaurant, games room, etc. There is an aqua aerobics class mid morning for the more energetic.
TORRE CANNE is a beach resort which also has natural hot springs. It is one of the few coastal towns that doesn't possess a defensive castle, but it does boast a lighthouse that still stands sentinel over the sea to protect sailors and adds a dose of ambiance. The beaches here are the main attraction - long, wide swaths of golden sand fronting the shallow pristine waters of the Puglian part of the Adriatic. The town offers a quaint and laid-back atmosphere with beachfront restaurants and cafes and a smattering of shops. It is popular with locals and has a number of private lidos offering sun chairs, umbrellas and covered parking for a small charge.
- Lido Verdi - this gives you access to a private beach where, along with sun loungers and umbrellas, there are showers, toilets, refreshment bar, etc
- Lido Bizzarro - this gives you access to a private beach where, along with sun loungers and umbrellas, showers and toilet facilities. There is also an excellent restaurant and a separate fast food bar / café.
- La Limonata (closed on Mondays), is an ice cream bar in the town which has a good selection of sundaes. To find the ice cream parlour, enter Torre Canne go over the lights and you will find the parlour (2 minutes drive approx) on the right hand side.
North of Torre Canne as the road bends inland there are about 6 miles of coast with low rocks (easy to swim from) and several small beaches which are relatively quiet.
TORRE GUACETO has a beach which is towards Brindisi airport. It is a marine conservation area and nature reserve so there is no building/boats/beach concessions and the water is clean. There is also a small museum that provides information on the history of the area and the different plant and animal species to be found.
TORRE SANTA SABINA is a lively seaside town and worth visiting especially on a Sunday when the evening passeggiata takes place.
BOWLING ALLEY DI SUMA ANGELO - There is a modern ten lane bowling alley, which also has a bar and arcade games, which is open daily from 17.00 until late. The prices are very reasonable: €4 for one game and up to €11 for four games, Mondays to Fridays and €6 per game on Saturdays. Shoe hire is 50 cents.
The venue is on Via Martina Franca 114. (just outside Ceglie Messapica on the Martina Franca road)
GROTTE DI MONTEVICOLI - this is a small series of underground caverns in Ceglie Messapica.
